My first Flat-Coat, I could not have been more fortunate. A beautiful blend of both her sire and dam, she serves as a wonderful example of both their contributions to the breed. A truly magnificent spirit, words cannot describe the utter beauty of this dog. She shows great promise.

Conformational Qualities:

Zoey is an absolutely lovely, elegant girl. She has a very pretty head, beautiful length of neck, nice level topline and good angulation. Her chest is deep with plenty of forechest, a near-perfect tailset and carriage, and sound, flowing movement from all directions. Side gait is remarkable. Zoey moves with a grace that does not go unnoticed, even by those unfamiliar with the breed. She is of good, moderate size, around 22" at the withers and 56-58 pounds, with excellent bone. Presents a nice silhouette. She has quite the correct coat, very dense and burr-resistant, though it does contain a slight wave that has lessened as she has gotten older. We would like to see a tighter eye and foot on her and a slightly higher earset. Her athleticism is apparent in her structure and movement.

At the 2006 FCRSA National Specialty, Zoey placed 2nd in a very competitive Am-Bred Bitch class (18 entries), at 22 months old. Zoey finished her championship with two 4-point majors, novice owner-handled all the way, at the age of 28 months. Her first weekend out as a special, she went Best of Breed both days. Her second weekend out as a special was the CRFCRC supported entry weekend in Maryland, where she took BOS the first day and made the cut in BOB the official day of the supported entry.

Heartbreakingly, Zoey was diagnosed with severe goniodysgenesis late Fall 2008 after the onset of glaucoma in her left eye. Due to the fact that goniodysgenesis is a bilateral congenital eye defect that may result in glaucoma and blindness and could possibly be passed on to offspring, Zoey will not be bred and has been spayed. Breeding has its ups and downs and we are so sad we aren't going to have Zoey pups, but we will enjoy every day with this wonderful dog regardless. I am so sure she will continue to impress us even with her new handicap.

Temperament:

Zoey loves retrieving, and goes about it with incredible drive and desire, both land and water, never expecting any praise. She is very athletic and high-energy, which I really love about her... most of the time! I cannot adequately describe this dog's immense desire to work and please. She is most definitely birdy, and marks quite well.

Indoors, she is calm, with her playful bouts, while outdoors she is quite preoccupied with retrieving. Zoey can be very affectionate, but she knows the value of moderation. She started competing in agility October 2005 and earned her first NAJ leg her first weekend out with a score of 95 in the 24" class and a 1st place. This was after just 3 months of extremely limited training. She is astonishingly bright and very biddable, catching on quickly. Zoey earned her CGC designation at just over 12 months old. She is also a very loving and exuberant girl, and shows it with all those Flat-Coat kisses. She gets along marvelously with all other living creatures, beautifully kind and always up for fun. Not once have I heard her growl or seen her raise a lip towards another dog, no matter the circumstance. She is outgoing and happy, interested in everything. Freakishly well-behaved at home, I worry more about why she hasn't destroyed or bothered anything! The bond we share amazes me, and there are times I think she can read my mind. She is a sensitive and thoughtful dog. As she has gotten older, her temperament has remained true, and her innate confidence has become more apparent.

As for performance events, she will continue competing in agility, obedience, and has began her field training.
